HIIII!!!!
So my area is South Port, and I'm in the Liverpool Stake (so like a grouping of congregations), and it is absolutely amazing here. Everyone and there grandma needs to visit South Port, it is my favourite. The autocorrect thing corrects to British spelling so I swear I'm not that fancy yet!
This week has just been a whirlwind, it went by so quickly! We traveled all the way from Manchester to Liverpool and then caught a train and then missed the bus so we took our luggage to our flat for like 1.5 miles...haha that was...fun? I'm going to get buff from transfers, I swear. Also the driving here is uhm, how can I put this... So in the third Harry Potter when harry catches the night bus and the driver is like whipping in and out of cars, super close?! Yeah, it's totally like that. People here drive so scary! They would definitely do well to have that lever that squeezed the bus. They're so skilled at it though, I don't know how they do it. Then once we got back a member took us to go get a chippie since it was like 8 and we hadn't eaten, and she showed us around the town. The fish and chips here are actually yummy! And the chocolate...the chocolate. Yeah we're not buying any to keep in our flat to just stay on the safe side haha. We usually have tea appointments like 4-5 times a week so that's plenty of un-healthiness. Also I haven't seen rain in over a week!!! Crazy right?! But it's pretty nippy when it turns about 6 o'clock, so I'm grateful for the no rain for now. My companion is Sister Hunter and she's from Idaho and 21. She's been in the field for about 11 months and she is amazing! I just love her! She's so understanding, funny, goofy, and spiritual. Uhm so I remember hearing about how I wouldn't be able to understand the accents here, and that's true like 75% of the time, especially the skousers (people from Liverpool) Oh my goodness I cannot pick up on but two words and then I look like such a clueless missionary and have to ask them to repeat themselves like 4 times! Haha it's really funny though, and the kids here are so stinkin' cute! They all sound like they're off of that show 'Charlie and Lola'! It's almost more difficult to understand the children, but that's fine with me :) The ward here in South Port is so kind! They definitely support missionary work 110%! We had a mix and mingle thingy yesterday and we met everyone, they also had us introduce ourselves and bare a short testimony (like, I know this church is true) during sacrament meeting (the first meeting where we partake of the sacrament).
But down to the work itself. I love it. I truly do.
I swear I could do this for the rest of my life, it's so amazing. We get two (and sometimes 3 hours because I'm training) hours of study! That is making a world of difference in my learning. It's becoming so fun to read the scriptures and for fun...we listen to the CD's Dallin and Jaclyn have made or pop in a Mormon message dvd (like the mothers day one I sent you mom). It cracks me up how simple things are, and that's what makes it the best. We bus contact, street contact, and just talk-to-anyone-in-our-path contact. It's kind of hard to explain what we do, but I'm getting better at it! We've met so many amazing people. There's this one family that the sisters who were in the area before us had found, but didn't have time to contact. They are so great, and we haven't even taught them yet. We just caught them as they were leaving for just a few minutes and they were so happy we had dropped by! We have another appointment with them soon :)
Another amazing thing that has happened was we ran into the man, who's dream place to live is in......UTAH. Of all places, he loves Utah. (That's so funny because a lot of Mormons live in Utah, and that's like where the church is really strong) We talked to him for like an hour about the Book of Mormon, and just what it was. He was so interested. I was just amazed. Then we got another appointment with him for this Wednesday! But that's not even the craziest part, the next morning he kept texting us about questions he has while reading so we just decided we should meet up with him and discuss the chapter he was reading. It was Lehi's vision (chapter 8 in the BOM). When we were reading it with him, he seemed so sincere and humble with the questions he was asking. The spirit was so strong. After the discussion we invited him to pray, and he said he was too shy. So then I was able to share my experience with praying with the missionaries and how it made such a huge difference in my desires to pray more often. Finally we were able to have him write down a prayer, so he would feel more comfortable with it, and he prayed!!! It was a very simple and sincere prayer. And the next crazy thing is we just ran into him at the library as we were about to email, and guess what he was going to do? Study the Book of Mormon and write down questions he has for Wednesday. I about cried when I saw how he is already changing. He is trying to hard to understand the path the Lord has for him.
One more thing! So I've been reading in the New testament to come to know Christ better, and it is amazing. I actually just ready Matthew 9 the other day :) But besides that I just have such a firm testimony that if we have pure faith in the Lord, then we will be a-ok. I can't remember which chapter but there's this lady and she had blood poisioning, and she has this thought that all she needs to do to be healed is to touch Christ's garment. As she did this, she was healed, but only because of her faith. This can apply so much to EVERYTHING. It can be as simple as when I lost my bus pass this week and prayed that I would find it, and I did. I didn't keep on worrying about it, I just passed it over to the Lord, and it was enough. I'm not saying that we don't have to work, because faith is an action. It is so hard to have perfect faith. But this is something I'm excited to develop during my mission. I am so grateful for the area of South Port, and that the Lord has gone out before me and Sister Hunter and prepared people for us. I know that the Lord has work for us to do here and I know that because this is Christ's church. I know it. I also know that the Book of Mormon is the truest book on this Earth. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
I love you all soooo much and since I have two hours to email I'll send more pictures and try to email everyone! I hate being so far ahead or Abby and Tory, I'm going to be like a week behind! Oh well!
Love,
Sister Miller
